Southbound

Twenty New York years have come and gone
guess I can't say they've all been wrong
I love my wife and sure do love my kids
Can't imagine my life without them

I'm ridin' on the early morning train
Headin' out in the early New York rain
To where it was my peace I first found
headin' southbound

Where my family still lives there at Johnson's Bend
where I remember summers never seemed to end
and fishin' for them brookies in the creek after school
as the sun would fall in the afternoons

I know I'll head on back in a few days
to life I've made and my city ways
I know I'll make it though I'm lost I'm found
since I've been southbound

Interlude

And if my children somehow lose their way
I hope they'll find there way again some day
and pray that they'll be comin' back around
since they've been southbound

Where my family still lives there at Johnson's Bend
were I remember summers seemed to never end
and fishin' in the creek for brookies after school
as the sun would fall in the afternoons

I know I'll make it I was raised that way
thankful for each sunrise God has made
and I won't get too high or low I know
'cause I can always go
back southbound
back home
